At Pacific Elite Nannies, we read hundreds of applications every single week. Yes - hundreds.
And we need to be honest with you: nearly all of them sound the exact. same. It’s like déjà vu, over and over again.
We know what is going on - and here is the thing: you’re not fooling us!
It is no secret that AI tools like ChatGPT are becoming part of everyday life. They are helpful. They can be great for brainstorming. But if you are copying and pasting your entire nanny application or cover letter directly from ChatGPT (or any AI tool), we can tell.
We can always tell.
Here is why that’s a problem and what you should do instead if you actually want to stand out and land an interview with our agency.
1. Your Application Should Sound Like YOU - Not a Robot
We are looking to represent real people. Families are hiring a human being, not a script.
When every application starts with:
“Dear Hiring Manager, I am thrilled to apply for the position of a dedicated and experienced nanny…”
…we already know it’s AI-generated. And you have lost us.
Now, is there anything wrong with using ChatGPT or another tool to help inspire your writing? Not at all. But here is the golden rule:
If you are going to use it, make sure your voice and personality shine through.
You should be editing, refining, and customizing every word so it sounds like you - not a robotic version of a “perfect nanny.”
2. We are Reading Your Application to Get to Know YOU—Not Generic Fluff
When we are reviewing applications, we are not looking for a bunch of buzzwords or vague phrases.
We want to know:
These are the things that help us match you with the right family. When every application is just a copy/paste of the same 5-paragraph essay, we cannot tell anything about your real experience, personality, or passion. And that means your application goes in the “no” pile.
3. Families Are Looking for Real People, Not Cookie-Cutter Nannies
Our agency is known for sending incredible, experienced, and heart-led nannies to amazing families. When we submit your profile to a family, it must reflect the real you.
Parents do not want to read another AI-crafted blurb about being “nurturing and passionate with a proven track record.” They want to hear:
These are the types of genuine, human statements that connect with people.
4. We are Rooting for You, So Don’t Sell Yourself Short
Here is the truth: We WANT to place you with a great family. We want to see you succeed.
But when you submit a generic, impersonal, AI-written application, you are not giving yourself a real chance.
You are telling us (and the families we represent) that:
That is a huge, missed opportunity.
We have worked with hundreds of phenomenal nannies over the years. The ones who shine are the ones who are real. Honest. Thoughtful. Original.
5. If You Do Use ChatGPT—Use It Smartly
Again, we are not saying you cannot use AI. But if youa re going to use a tool like ChatGPT, here is how to make it work for you, not against you:
✅ Use it to outline your ideas - not write your whole application
✅ Ask it for ideas on how to word a specific skill or experience
✅ Use it to polish grammar or rephrase a sentence that sounds clunky
✅ Write your draft first, then use ChatGPT to help revise or clarify
You might try prompts like:
Then edit, tweak, and make it yours.
Add your voice. Your heart. Your stories. That’s what makes a difference.
6. Here’s What We Want to See Instead
We would LOVE to see applications that show us the real nanny behind the resume.
Here is what your application, profile, or email should include:
✨ About You – Where you are from, what brought you into childcare, what kind of person you are outside of work
✨ Your Experience – Real examples. Not just “10 years of experience,” but what kind of experience. Tell us about the kids, the families, the milestones you were part of
✨ Your Childcare Philosophy – What is important to you in caregiving? Are you Montessori-aligned? Gentle parenting? Big on structure and schedules? Tell us!
✨ What You’re Looking For in a Family – Be honest. Want a family who respects boundaries? Open to travel? Looking for long-term only? This is where you say it.
And most importantly, write like you are talking to real people who care.. because we do.
7. Final Words: Be Brave, Be Real, and Stand Out
At the end of the day, we are not looking for “perfect.” We are looking for real.
We want the kind of nannies who write from the heart. Who care enough to show up with thought, effort, and honesty. Who want to connect with a family that feels like a true match, not just grab any job that comes along.
So yes, you can use tools like ChatGPT but make sure it is a supporting tool, not your entire voice.
You are your best asset. Your story, your heart, your experience – that is what families remember. That is what we are looking for. So ditch the generic, robotic applications. Be bold. Be original.
And please - don’t make us read another “dedicated, passionate nanny with 10 years of experience.”
Tell us about YOU.
We are ready to listen.
